Race 4 Better Hearing is a fundraising initiative begun in 2012 by a small group of cyclists who wanted to raise funds for underprivileged deaf children who need cochlear implants. Race 4 Better Hearing falls under the umbrella of the Foundation for Children with a Hearing Loss in Southern Africa, a registered non-profit organisation.
From four cyclists who cycled from Pretoria to Cape Town in 2012, the group has grown to include many cyclists who cycle for the cause at various events across the country, wearing their Race 4 Better Hearing kit and raising awareness wherever they go.
The first group of cyclists raised R170 000 in 2012, and this group grew to 12 in 2013, who raised almost R400 000 cycling from Pretoria to Port Elizabeth.
This year, a core group of four riders will travel 2 400 km, cycling through 7 provinces and Lesotho, accompanied by stage riders along the way. Click here for more information on how to join a stage of the tour, or sponsor a rider.
Each year, riders also join the Race 4 Better Hearing charity team at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Race in Johannesburg, riding to raise both funds and awareness. Click here to contact us for more information about registering to ride on our behalf
